Denia Information

Denia Spain about 85 km north east of Alicante along the Costa Blanca. Doubtless to say, Denia is famous for being one of the most attractive places to spend your holidays.

 

Denia and its Important Harbor

The ferry to Mallorca and IbizaWith about 29 000 inhabitants, Denia does not only make their living from tourism. It possesses one of the most important harbors of the area, with ferry connections to Ibiza, Mallorca and others.

This and the huge fishing fleet have made Denia a very prosperous city over the past years.

Sightseeing

One of the most visited tourist attractions of Denia is the castillo (castle). The castle built in the 11th and 12th century offers a wonderful view around the sea, the city and the backlands. Within the castle you will find the Palau del Governador with its museum. Along with the other interesting museums in Denia, the Museo Etnologico will give you further details on the rich history and culture of Denia.

Make sure you test some of the excellent cakes and sweets of local confectionery and bakery shops, Denia is famous for them. Denia also offers the golfer a chance to bag a few birdies at the golf course.

How to Get There ?

If you have some time to discover the beauty of the area via the N 332 – you will love it’s views. Another nice way to come to the city is the narrow gauge railway Denia Benidorm Alicante, Denia in between Gandia in the north and Javea in the south is every summer one of the most visited cities around.

Denia lies directly on the outskirts of the mountain Montgo, a fact that surfers and sailors admire a lot, as the wind from the sea is reflected to give a very stable water sport resort. The average Denia Weather reaches temperatures of up to 40 °C in summer, but hardly less than 5 °C during winter time.

Property

Over the past ten years Denia has seen one of the biggest real estate booms along the Costa Blanca. When you enter the city for the first time, you will see many Denia real estate agencies and an enormous construction boom on the outskirts.

However, even with a high demand for Denia apartments and villas, the city has managed to maintain its suburban flair.

Tips on your Denia trip

If you plan to spend your holidays in or around the Denia area, make sure you get a boat round trip to Javea, Altea and Benidorm or rent a car. Local transport by bus or train is available, but if you want to see some of the beautiful places around the Costa Blanca, you really want to have a car.

Denia car hire companies offer car pick up and drop at Alicante airport which you would like to have. Booking your hotel or apartment for your holidays you should check the internet before you plan to see the area. It is not advisable to come to Denia during the summer period, without a car reservation in hand.

Main sights

Denia is home to a castle located on a rocky crag overlooking the city. It was built in the 11th and 12th century and offers views around the sea, the city and the surrounding area. Within the castle is the Palau del Governador with its museum.

Denia is also home to the Museo Etnologico with further details on the history and culture of the city. 

Transportation

The ferry to Ibiza and the other Balearic Islands departs from Denia daily. The city also serves as the northern terminus for a picturesque metre gauge railway line through the mountains from Alicante (popularly known as the Limón Express)

Denia Golf

From fellow Spanish world class golfer Jose Maria Olazabal comes the next 18 hole golf course. Designed in 1990, it offers a demanding 18 hole golf course and a driving range with over 20 bays. You find it around the village Jesus Pobre near Denia. Leave at exit 62 of the autopista AP7 and head in direction towards Denia and take a right to La Xara and Jesus Poble. It’s one of those clubs that should not be missed.

Our Lady of Rocio Pilgrimage

This is held the first fortnight in June with processions and music.

 

Our Lady of the Forsaken

This event is held on the second Sunday of May to celebrate the seamen's patron saint day.
